Christmas in Hogwarts : Holiday Spirit by House
Gryffindor
Gryffindors have the ability to appreciate the holidays not for presents or for the weather or anything of the like, but for time to spend with their family and friends. They are one of the houses that is the biggest on sentimental value and nostalgia, and this shows especially during Christmas. Gryffindors are the type to store memories from past years into their brain to retell them later on in life, or to yearn to hear from the older members of their family what the holidays were like for the generations before, and that the family they never had the chance to meet was like. They fill up all of their time during the holidays, to the point they can overwhelm themselves and therefore become stressed. When this happens the do have a tendency to get sour, saying that Christmas is nothing more than a commercial way to make people lose their minds. Once they get over this though, they will be right back in the loving spirit they were before.
Hufflepuff
Hufflepuffs are the house with the most holiday cheer. If you wanted to quickly describe the end of How the Grinch Stole Christmas, you could say he turned into a Hufflepuff. They are incredibly hardworking and giving, and therefore want everything to be perfect. They want everyone to be happy and have a great holiday, and if they aren’t then they take it to heart. They hate to be around people who are bitter about the holiday season, and if they do happen to be around such folks they will try their best to get them feeling more of the spirit, and spread a little joy to them. The thing that would get a Hufflepuff most upset during Christmas would be if something in their plan went wrong, as they can see it as totally ruining the day, whereas other people may not see it as such a big deal.
Ravenclaw
Ravenclaws, opposite of Hufflepuffs, are the most cynical about the holidays. They are much less into being sentimental than would a Lion or a Badger be, and they tend to see more of the reality of how the holidays are advertised. They see the commercial aspects, and don’t look past it to see the true meaning of it. They find those with a lot of holiday cheer to be frankly annoying, because they think they are just faking their happiness. They are rarely ones to ask for much on Christmas, and take what they get politely, but are not huge gift givers or expectant of anything from others.
Slytherin
Slytherins can have a slightly more driven look on the holidays, as well as a less sentimental one. They tend to be a bit materialistic, and go out of their way to get extravagant gifts for others to improve their karma. They believe that if they go out of their way to have a big heart during the holidays, they will get everything they want, which is quite often a good bit. When this concept doesn’t work in their favour, they can get a bah humbug attitude toward Christmas, saying it is nothing but a waste of time that lost it’s meaning long ago, if it ever had any. If they do get what they want, they can be sickeningly full of holiday cheer, and enjoy bothering others with it.
